<Mestoklema tuberosum care>
Mestoklema tuberosum, commonly known as “tuberous mesemb” or “ice plant,” is a hardy succulent native to South Africa. It is prized for its tuberous roots, drought tolerance, and attractive foliage and flowers.
Here’s a guide to its care:
1. Light
• Full Sun: Requires at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily. Ideal for outdoor gardens or sunny indoor windowsills.
2. Soil
• Well-Draining Soil: Use sandy or gritty soil, such as a cactus/succulent mix. Ensure proper drainage to prevent root rot
3. Watering
• Drought-Tolerant: Water deeply but infrequently. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings.
• Dormant Season: Water sparingly during winter or dormant periods.
4. Temperature and Humidity
• Warm Climate: Thrives in temperatures between 70–85°F (21–29°C). Protect from frost, as it is not frost-hardy.
• Low Humidity: Prefers dry conditions. Avoid overwatering in humid climates.
